the raspberries

appeared ex nihilo as raspberry plants do after move-in but before births and in spring rain I saw at once flowers and what they portend by the dozens of dozens together time loops and whipsaws now some weeks after schools closed and we said soon and eons since crossing county lines watercolor weeks and days washed in always but time advances still. the raspberries promise

Ryan Love felt inspired to write “the raspberries” in his backyard after conversing with a guidance counselor about a student struggling during remote learning. He teaches high school English in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, where he earned a degree from Alfred University. He and his wife live in a Victorian with pairs of daughters, beagles, and guinea pigs.
