Younger, we envisioned
less heartburn from beer,
multiple hybrid irons.
Not to mention lipsticked lips
which are complicated
in a way that’s not crazy.
But, like bull riders of old,
hanging on is now
our way of life, if not
for the belt buckles
and 100 grand cash prize
but so we don’t rely
on clowns to save us,
the crowd on its feet
and drunk from the blood.
