Dawn Meyer

Happy Hour

I love the olive in a martini glass—
how it survives surrounded by alcohol,
just absorbing enough to be more interesting and sociable.
A red pimento concealed and revealed through
one hole made by the creator to fill.
And how that tastes in the mouth—

like myself as an embryo. The one
who loves what hurts her.
