Solitariness
Song

“Our House” solo acoustic
him crying all night in my arms,

you cannot expect
someone to understand
exactly what something means to you.

Later, the drummer from his band
shining a phone around the room

to show me where to lie down
beside him on the floor

I didn't expect anyone
to understand what it had meant,

it was just another complicated beginning and ending,
another not knowing something had begun

until it ended,
until nothing had happened

except that two cats in the yard,
that Life used to be so hard.

Solitariness

I once saw a gazelle
in a thicket of monkeys.
It was 2004.
So much has happened since then

still
her dark eyes,
still her calm,
believing face.
