A Short Sleet Interview with Brian Liebeck
In conjunction with our AWP week reading event, Sleet at the Icehouse, Sleet presents a short Q&A with Icehouse owner and co-founder Brian Liebeck.
Sleet: Brian, please tell Sleet readers a bit about your background and about how the Icehouse came to be.
Brian Liebeck: Icehouse came to be as a result of myself and Matt Bickford’s love of music and food, whiskey and craft beer. We decided to combine those interests, under one roof, to bridge the similarities between the art of food and music.
Sleet: Is there an Icehouse philosophy? I ask because you have been so open and welcoming to Sleet in regards to our reading April 9th, including even inventing a special Sleet cocktail for us. You really seem to support artists of all kinds.
BL: It’s who we are and simply an extension of our interests. There is a way to stay in business and support the arts without the need for grant funding nor gouging anyone.
Sleet: Is there anything else you'd like to add about what makes the Icehouse special, or just anything more you'd like people to know?
BL: Our food is 100% made from scratch with ingredients sourced from local purveyors, the artists we work with are all local – we are fans of everyone we work with first and foremost and love the relationships formed as a result of sticking with the local community. Through this philosophy, we have learned so much about the happenings in the Twin Cities – AWP this week is one of them.
