Danny Sklar

One Night

I forgot to get drunk
on Thursday when I went to
the volleyball game and the
Moliere play. It is important
to go to a volleyball game
and then to see a Moliere
play. I think of how Max
and I went to see the 39 Steps
on Broadway and he found
an ad for an Argentine Restaurant
in the Playbill at intermission
and after the play we walked
over there and went upstairs
and there were white table
cloths and it was an August
night in New York

Dan Sklar teaches writing at Endicott College, where he tries to inspire his students to write in a natural and spontaneous way.   He has had work published in the Harvard Review, New York Quarterly, and the English Journal among other magazines.  His book, Bicycles, Canoes, Drums came out in September.
