Volume 2 Number 2 • Fall - Winter 2010-2011
Walking these alleys
I can see the yellow eyes of the hours
and their intractable lentitude,
Gutter oil and granite,
the entranced visitors,
and the slow slide of cars toward Main.
I am wearing my shirt of armor—
so far from the old songs
that slow time, the road in its tunnel of dust,
the broken candle on the mantle.
