Some shudder goes
Through her brown body and out
As she is fed by the red bird.
That seed, the beginning
And the end to her quakes.
She alights on a wire, waits
For him and soon, yes, again
She gives that bird permission
And I see them through glass
As one body eating.
Tasha Cotter is an MFA candidate at Eastern Kentucky University. In 2009 she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Jelly Bucket, the literary journal published annually by the Creative Writing Program at Eastern Kentucky University.
