Volume 3 Number 2 • Fall 2011
Stone lantern,
stone basin,
stepping stones.
The path garden
is completely stoned.
Maple leaves drop
hints. Pines are pruned,
wired, weighted. The moss
is swept.
I, too, am part of this design,
unplanned
and unpredictable.
Sara Backer, author of the novel AMERICAN FUJI, was recently awarded a Norton Island Artist Residency. She lived in Japan for three years and owns a stone lantern with a Buddha carved on the base which you can see on her website: http://www.sarabacker.com.
